Life without hockey suits Sundin;'It's so nice to be able to control your own days,' former Leaf
Fri October 28, 2011 2:28 am
For former Maple Leafs captain Mats Sundin, retirement has literally been a breath of fresh air. Instead of the constant worrying, the sick feeling in his stomach before each game and the endless hours of mental and physical preparation, Sundin now spends his days fishing, and hunting - or simply "doing nothing" with his wife Josephine back home in Sweden. "It's so nice to be able to control your own days," Sundin, 40, said Thursday while back in Toronto doing some community work for the Leafs. "I still work out a few times each week but it's nice to know that you don't have to do things every day.

Flyers lose Schenn to broken foot
Fri October 28, 2011 2:28 am
BRAYDEN SCHENN skated off the ice under his own power in Montreal on Wednesday night, hobbling a little bit after blocking a P.K. Subban howitzer with his left foot in the first period. With Schenn, 20, on the ice to finish the remaining two periods, his injury was an afterthought after the game. It's a fairly normal occurrence to watch a hockey player limp out of an arena after a game. Last night, Schenn was hobbling around the press box at the Wells Fargo Center - this time, with a walking boot, thanks to a fracture in his foot.

Bryzgalov blasts himself after wild Flyers' loss to Jets
Fri October 28, 2011 2:28 am
ILYA BRYZGALOV could not hold back any longer. Last night, it did not matter if Bryzgalov was not the starter against Winnipeg. It did not matter if the Flyers' brutally sloppy play, which put them in a 5-1 hole in the first 25 minutes, pressed him into service less than 24 hours after allowing five similar goals in Montreal. It did not matter if Bryzgalov was to blame. He took it upon himself. Last night, after the Flyers finally succumbed to one last Jets' lead, Bryzgalov took himself out to the woodshed.
